Partnership With the New‑York Historical Society Announced

We’re thrilled to share some huge news with you: The American LGBTQ+ Museum has partnered with the New-York Historical Society to open our first ever exhibition space!

The Historical Society will be adding more than 70,000 square feet to its celebrated building, one floor of which will be designated for the American LGBTQ+ Museum, expected to be completed around 2026.

Simply put: this is the biggest step we’ve ever taken toward realizing our dream and opening the first museum in New York City dedicated to preserving and celebrating LGBTQ+ history and culture.

Please read more about this announcement in The New York Times, with some terrific quotes from our Board Chair, Richard Burns, describing our vision for the museum: The Oldest Museum in New York Is Expanding
